Free Picks at Churchill Downs – June 28, 2026

The sun is shining over the historic Twin Spires, and the atmosphere at Churchill Downs is nothing short of electric as we prepare for another premier day of racing this June 28th. There is a legendary "vibe" that only Louisville can provide—a mix of high-stakes tension, the smell of fresh dirt, and the thundering rhythm of hooves against the track. Today’s card is particularly intriguing, offering a blend of competitive maiden sprints and high-level allowance races that provide plenty of opportunities for savvy bettors to find an edge.

At Track Tipster, our team has been grinding through the past performances, clocker reports, and track bias data to find the best value on the board. While the summer heat can be a factor for some of these athletes, the horses we’ve highlighted today have shown they can handle the humidity and the pressure of the big stage. Let’s dive into today’s featured free pick and see if we can start the afternoon with a trip to the winner's circle.

Race #1 — Powerline

• Odds: 8-5
• Bet Recommendation: Win
• Confidence: High

Analysis: We are kicking off the day with a strong conviction in the opener. Powerline enters the gate as the definitive horse to beat, and for good reason. This runner has displayed impressive tactical speed and a rare level of consistency in his recent outings, which has rightfully earned him the top spot on the morning line. What stands out most about Powerline is his ability to maintain a high cruising speed while still having enough in the tank to kick clear in the final furlong.

In his last two starts, he faced significantly tougher competition than what he’ll see in this field, proving he has both the raw talent and the stamina to outpace these rivals. The internal fractions he’s been setting suggest that he will likely take command of the lead early and never look back. With only a few legitimate competitors in this race capable of challenging him early on, Powerline is perfectly positioned to dictate the pace. If he breaks cleanly from the gate, he stands out as the clear winner and a "must-use" for any early Pick-3 or Pick-4 sequences.
